[When Scott had last been aware, he'd been somewhere near the deserts of Mexico. Where in Mexico, he couldn't be sure, though there'd certainly been enough heat and sand to last a lifetime. It simply made no sense to pass out and wake up in a snowpile, more underdressed than he'd been in the summer sun. It's an understatement to call Scott alarmed. He scrambled to his feet, ears straining for the sound of something other than the whistling wind of a cold breeze. It must have been the fight he'd had with Mystique. He'd obviously lost, and she'd had him shipped to a different corner of the globe instead. Is she planning to keep abandoning him in different places until the elements kill him outright? He doubts he'll last long in sub-zero conditions without even a blanket to insulate him.

No. Scott decides instantly that he isn't in the mood to die today. Nothing good comes from pessimism. He'd found people in the bowels of a foreign country before, and he'll just have to do it again here too. Judging by the temperature, there might at least be some Inuit family that might be willing to share their igloo.]

Hello? [He ventures a greeting cautiously, and dares to crack a single eye open to see if there's some sort of civilization nearby. The small gesture alone sends a bright red beacon ripping through the flurrying snow -- hopefully not into anyone's personal property. There seemed to be some manmade structures just off to the left of the snapshot image he'd gotten. It wasn't enough of a visual to notice the journal lying open at his feet, but he isn't really in much of a reading mood anyway.]

I-is... anyone there? [He tries it again, more assertive now despite the telltale shiver in his tone. If there's at least one house, then there has to be people somewhere. With people come options. Maybe they'll have a phone he can use to call the mansion and get help sent out, or perhaps they'd at least have a first-aid kit and would be nice enough to patch up whatever injury was causing that bone-deep pain in his shoulderblades. If nothing else, hopefully the people here speak English.]

[She's trying to get to him. She's still trying to weave under his skin, to make him do something he'll regret. It's too windy for him to be able to make out the crunch of snow -- maybe she's not alone. Maybe she's got a hostage.]

Scott - reach behind you an' touch your back.

[But then he does it and what are feathers doing there?]

What did you do?

That wasn't me. Look, we're all stuck like this just -- hang on an' try not ta freeze. If you can feel out for anythin' - some kind of landmark, I'll come an' find you.

[His stuff wasn't in the Daily Sort that morning, but... she could at least look and see if the Malnosso had dropped anything off. Maybe the Malnosso left it beside him and he just can't see it. Either way, she picks up the journal and starts heading towards the back where the new things usually arrive.

He'll be fine, we've both been in worse situations than this. At least most everyone in this place is nice.

...which may be the first time she's actually been grateful for that.]

[There's no reason for Rogue to be so calm. He's missing a piece of the puzzle, and that's more infuriating than any of this. At least when he was stranded in a desert, he knew where he stood.]

...I took a peek. It's mostly trees. Maybe some buildings further off.

[Okay, okay, she can do this. Hold it together. Look around for his glasses, his visor, anything, and then--]

All right, then just - stay there. I'm lookin' in the Item Shop ta see if I can find your [mrrr, open connection - oh screw it] glasses. If I can't I'll be outside in five minutes an' when I tell you to, just look up an open your eyes for a minute. That'll help me pinpoint which side of the village you're on.

[Just like when they were on that bridge together.

...of course, Mystique would know all this too, but Rogue doesn't know how she can prove who she is over the journals anyway.]

You know where my glasses are?

Rogue, as soon as you get here, you need to tell me everything. [Starting with how long he was unconscious. Clearly he's missed something.]

Gawd, I hope so. [The sound of things being moved around.] I'm lookin' for 'em now. If they're here, I'll find 'em.

[No promises on the 'tell you everything' as soon as she's there, though. Things like not freezing are important.]

Why would they be where you are? Where is this place, anyway?

[The freezing thing is becoming less of an issue, actually. His body's reached a numb sort of zen, frequent shivering notwithstanding.]

That's a.. really long story, Scott. [Scott. She still can't believe he's here.

And, oh man, is he not gonna like this place. She's not sure if him getting all upset before she can even find his glasses is a good idea so - temporary avoidance tactic?] Let's just say... we ain't in Kansas anymore.

[Come on, come on, they've got to be here.]

Obviously. [It's warm in Kansas this time of year.]

I don't suppose you've got an ETA in mind for when I should send a flare. [Not that he's impatient or anything, but even trudging blindly through the snow would be preferable to all this waiting. He'd rather at least feel like he's accomplishing something.]

When I'm sure that your glasses aren't here. [Definitely not in the 'To Be Sorted' pile.] There's only one more place I can check, just hold on.

[Scott is trying to stay calm and not be irritatingly impatient. He's really, honestly trying. But he's painfully aware that he doesn't have nearly enough information for this situation, and "sit tight in the snow" isn't the answer he wants to be getting. He'll stay quiet, but he doesn't have to like it.]

[And Rogue is just trying to not freak out here.

Reassurance that he's not freezing to death would help in this manner.] Talk ta me, Scott. What's the last thing you remember?

[The sound of things being moved around...]

[It wouldn't be a concern if Jean was here. Jean would just know.]

M-mexico. Mystique left me in the desert -- we were fighting. [There were wolves, and that poor hospital...] I don't remember where the wings came from -- she probably knocked me out again.

[He'd really like a shirt now. Maybe some gloves. Maybe even a nice long nap in a warm bed.]

[And Rogue regrets once more that she just can't be as perfect as Jean.

Except not, because she can't see those parenthesis. She does, however, freeze for a moment.

He really is that far back.]

[Move, Rogue. Don't think about it. Just move.]

If only the wings were Mystique - that'd be a lot easier-- ha!

[VICTORY, the glasses have been found.]

I've got 'em. Just a sec...

[And grabbing a blanket on her way out the door, Rogue clears the Item Shop and looks into the sky.]

Okay - now!

[At her signal, Scott raises his head skyward, opening his eyes and unleashing a short burst of energy -- though it's shortlived. Scott didn't have the chance to see the oversized branch he was destroying until his powers seared into the wood, sending splintering shards raining back down.]

Ow!

[There's a more colorful swear word that follows, though the general numbness helps him not notice any of the new scratches.]

Did you see enough?

[Fortunately, one giant red beam is usually sufficient for this sort of thing, and she does pinpoint his position. But -]

Yeah, I saw it! Are you okay?

Nothing hurt but my pride. [He smiles sheepisly, though it makes his flushed face ache.]

How far are you?

[She judges it as best she can.]

About ten minutes. I'll see if I can cut it some.

[In other words, she'll start running.]

Thanks, Rogue. I trust you.

[Enough that he sinks down the remainder of the way, huddling into a trembling person-ball. Please don't be Mystique.]

[And so in due time, Rogue runs up to the field where the Malnosso plopped him. She calls out, lightly winded from the run.]

Scott? I'm here.

[She can't... quite believe that he is, though.]

[Oh, he's here. What's left of him, at least. He's pale and trembling, with a dusting of snow tangled into his hair. He looks up at the sound of her voice, though his eyes remain desperately squeezed closed.]

R-Rogue? What's happening here?
