[It's a weird sort of deja vu to go to sleep in one's own bed only to wake up on the ground in the middle of some forest. His first instinct was to assume it was a hugely unfunny joke, and he picked himself up and groped around the closest trees, eyes clenched tightly.]

Very funny, guys! Now give me back my glasses before I end up hurting someone.

[He gropes at two of the nearest trees, trying to gather his sense of direction. He'd memorized every tree around the perimeter of the school for just this occasion. This one is as thick as one of the old oaks, but didn't have any of the telltale carvings he'd notched into the closest trees years ago. That means he's either out farther than he thought or that this isn't a prank at all.]

Whoever's out there, this isn't going to solve anything. [It can't be Mystique again. Mystique is dead.] We can talk about this. You don't have to put everyone into such a dangerous situation.

[There isn't any answer. That means worse things. Had there been an attack? Was he separated from everyone again? There's only one way to find out.]

Look, I don't know if anyone can hear me. But if you can and you're close by, please get back right now!

[He dares to open his eyes, for just a flash of information. A beam shoots out, splintering the tree in front of him and sending chunks of wood blasting out in all directions. Luckily, there hadn't been anyone standing there, though he was almost positive he'd seen a rabbit. And if he'd seen a rabbit, that rabbit wasn't alive anymore. It was a mistake to check at all.]

It's fine, Summers. [He coaches himself now that he assumes he's alone.] You've done this before. Just reach out to Jean and she'll come find you and everything'll work out again. Assuming she's all right. Jean, please be all right.

[The name doesn't mean anything, but something about this conversation hits Scott's Suspicion button button hard.]

What do you mean, ask Rogue? What have you done with her? Is she hurt?

[His face bunches up with the strain of clamping his eyes shut more tightly. His instinct is to see, to stare hatefully into the eyes of someone who's approached him with cryptic threats and might have gotten Rogue involved in something terrible.

He slips. It's just a crack, but it's enough to cause a fuss. It sends him tossing the journal to the ground and fighting to redirect his trajectory as a sliver of a beam shoots out with laserlike precision. He fights to train his head down, towards harmless grass, but the soil still cracks and sizzles nonetheless.]

[Well, isn't that just typical. Of course everyone automatically assumes he has done something terrible. Which yes, he's more than capable of and doesn't particularly care if he does, but it would be phenomenally stupid to do something like that here. And what benefit would he gain even in Midgard from kidnapping Rogue? It's stupid. He feels rather insulted that everyone thinks he's that stupid, really. And frustrated that everyone always assumes the worst, but really that's how it's been all his life anyway. It would be lovely if he at least only got blamed for things he'd actually done. Not that they ever blame him for the right things, even then. It's always whine whine you destroyed a tiny bit of my city and killed a few people and yes I know daily we kill far more of our own species and I can't be arsed to worry about that but that's all right because we're the ones doing it.

Mortals. He's so very done with mortals sometimes.

Loki is about to answer when the audible commotion starts up on the other end of the connection. So he waits patiently, rolling his eyes all the while, then speaks when things have quieted down. His tone is so dry it could make paint peel:]

She was just fine when I saw her this morning, before she went to practice. She's my... girlfriend, you twit. [At the last moment, he decides that girlfriend is maybe a more appropriate word to use than lover in this instance, as much as he loathes the term.] I don't think it's any of your business what I've been doing with her.

[This is bad. It's bad and it's dangerous and damn it Summers this is not the time to lose control of your powers. It takes a bit to gather his bearings and grope for the book again. Perhaps he accidentally toggles the video option for a short while as well. It's hard to maneuver these things when one's eyesight isn't an option.

And wait. Did he just?]

Your girlfriend? [This guy? This guy??] It's very much my business what you're doing with her.

[His tone becomes almost prim.] If you want to pry into her personal life, you can ask her that. Knowing the lady as I do, I'm certain she'll be thrilled.

[This could be very, very funny. Loki knows he is in deadly amounts of trouble.]

Don't think I won't. And if I find out you've hurt one hair on her head, you and I are gonna have to have some words.

And what threat shall I make for when you hurt her?

That doesn't even make sense.

[He'd never hurt a teammate. Not ever.]

[Dryly:] It makes precisely as much sense as your threat toward me does.

You're trying to twist everything around. [And he wishes you wouldn't, Loki. Scott prefers when everything is in black and white.]

[Obviously Scott is one of those mortals that never paid attention in school, or he'd know what the name Loki should signify.]

Oh, I'm sorry. Was I supposed to be assisting you in your effort to jump to conclusions?

[Oh, he sleeps in class all the time. Having a special "eye condition" that means nobody can tell when his eyes are open? It's a free pass for class-napping.]

You haven't given me any reason not to.

Guilty until proven innocent. How lovely. Is that the standard by which I should judge all mortals, praytell?

You -- [He trips over his words then, because he wasn't really ready with a comeback that time.]

I don't have to keep having this conversation with you.

Retreating in disarray is an excellent way to acknowledge I've made my point.

[He is very amused. Though he continues to be very unimpressed with Rogue's friends. Did he get the only good one of the lot?]

Do you need directions on how to aim your non-retreat toward the item shop?

[He may or may not be huffing. This isn't going at all well.]
